Remembering Lois Miller

Lois Miller was a vital part of the Port Orford Community and documented much of its beauty and history with her ever-present camera.

A sample of Lois’s exceptional bird photography. More at Rare Bird Arts.

Lois will best be remembered through her legacy of art — photography, paintings, tile mosaics, and wood carvings. Lois’s award-winning wildlife photography has been published in dozens of books and magazines, and featured in numerous gallery exhibits throughout the country. Locally, she provided wedding and senior portrait photography and coverage for events such as the Port Orford Jubilee and the Cape Blanco Music Festival.

She enjoyed bird watching, especially at Paradise Point, the Port of Port Orford, and in Costa Rica. Her greatest joy were her grandchildren, who absolutely adored her.

Below is a video created by Nathan Malamud in 2019 about the Lois Miller Memorial Scholarship that was established in her name by The Port Orford Rotary.

Her annual calendar is published every year by her daughter and grandson, Miles, to raise proceeds for the Lois Miller Scholarship fund. They are available here.

  1. A recent contribution to our collection from Portside Cafe has clarified information regarding this photo that was previously posted to this page. The person on the back of the horse is someone other than Lois Miller — apparently it is Wendy Briggs. Also, the horse’s name is “Blaze” and not “Cricket” … We will be updating this page to reflect the changes and with more information about Lois Miller. Thanks!
