The Chinook movie theater in Gold Beach, and The Bandon movie theater in Bandon had common ownership. Note the mention of “Lola”.  This refers to Lola Windmaiser, the woman who during the 1950’s through the 1980’s managed the theater. Her husband Adolph served as mayor 1968-71.  Lola and Adolph had no children and she was known to not allow theater patrons to display public affection.  Movie goers remember ‘Ol Lady’ Windmaiser as being strict.
It was my understanding that back then, parents often just dropped their kids off to fend for themselves. Apparently they wanted to believe baby-sitting was included in the cost of a movie ticket…

Elk River Dairy.jpgUnknownc1960George Woodworth was the owner/operator of the Elk River Dairy. His wife was name was Dode. Note the early telephone number on this business card:  ED. 2-2566.“ED.” was an abbreviation of Edgewood.

It was revealed later that the veterans were trying to drum up support for the use of Battle Rock as the base for a statute of a horseback-mounted Teddy Roosevelt charging up San Juan Hill in Cuba.

The Villa Matchbook.jpgUnknownc1940M. E. Kelley’s Villa Cottages  it was originally owned by Maurice Kelly and his wife Blanche. According to the 1940 census, the Kelly’s were in Alaska in 1935 but the Port Orford 1940 census showing them as owners of a tourist auto court. It was between 18th and 19th street on 101 east side like you said. Maurice’s dad owned the next block in the 1940’s. Simmons Beds – Flamo for cooking – Fireplaces and oil heaters – North end of Port Orford where the Busy Bubbles Laundramat is located.
