Hughes House Home Movies

A delightful home movie created by Kenny Henson when he camped for seven days out at Cape Blanco State Park in 2023. He asked the hosts if he could create a video of the guided tour of the historic Hughes House given by Oregon State Park Volunteers and this is the result:

For a view of the beautiful surrounding ranch, watch this 360° aerial video created by Dan Billings:

Enjoy your virtual tour of this important historic Oregon landmark!

  1. Deborah Masterson

Patrick and Jane oldest daughter Alice Hughes Masterson Son John, brought his Wife Vernice Robbin’s back to the Ranch in 1922. They lived in the Ranch House until their home was built in back of the Hughes Home where they increased their family with 3 children and eventually moved into the Victorian Masterson house in Port Orford.

    • So interesting! From the National Register of Historic Places:

“In 1921 a house was built northwesterly of the ranch house for John Masterson, son of Patrick and Alice Hughes Masterson, who, with his wife Vernice, occupied the newer house until 1940 or 1941. […] When the property was acquired for state park purposes, the newer house became the park manager’s residence, and a service area shop building was erected between the two houses.”

It would be one of the two buildings (far right) shown at the end of the Billings video.

And here’s am image of the Masterson House c1970, perhaps when they (John and Vernice) still lived there?
